NOA warns against self-medication, hiding Ebola symptoms

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has warned Kaduna residents against self-medication and concealing symptoms following the reported confirmation of an Ebola case in Abuja.
The agency urged anyone who develops symptoms suspected to be linked to the disease to seek medical attention promptly instead of attempting treatment at home.
The Kaduna State Director of NOA, Danjuma Makama, gave the warning in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday by the agency’s Head of Communication and Media in the state, Linda Michael.
Makama also advised residents to report suspected cases to the nearest health facility and cooperate with health workers during screening, surveillance and contact-tracing activities.
He urged residents to contact the Kaduna State Emergency Disease Surveillance lines on 08036045755 and 07031992126 for guidance.
“Public safety depends on accurate information and responsible action. By staying informed and cooperating with health authorities, we can protect ourselves, our families, and our communities,” Makama said.
The agency further advised residents to rely on verified information from relevant health authorities and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports that could undermine efforts to prevent the disease.
Ebola is a severe disease that can be fatal. It spreads through direct contact with the blood, body fluids or tissues of infected people or animals, as well as contact with contaminated materials.
Possible symptoms include sudden fever, severe headache, muscle and joint pain, weakness, fatigue and sore throat. Vomiting, diarrhoea, unexplained bleeding and bruising may also occur.
The NOA urged residents to observe recommended preventive measures, remain alert to possible symptoms and report suspected cases without delay.
The warning comes as health authorities strengthen surveillance and preparedness following the reported Ebola case in Abuja.
