Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has alleged that the National Chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu received the sum of N1billion from a presidential aspirant in Lagos.
Wike made the allegation during an interview with the press on Friday in Port Harcout, Rivers State and challenged Ayu to debunk it.
He stated that some governors of the PDP were aware of the allegation and added that the money went into Ayu’s private account instead of the party’s.
“Let him deny it , I will give more information. That money did not go into PDP account but into the private account of Ayu. Let Ortom, Fintiri, Ipeazu, Makinde tell Nigeria it is not correct”, he said.
The governor also accused Ayu of manipulating the presidential primary in favour of Atiku Abubakar, who emerged as the winner.
He stated that Ayu held meetings behind closed doors, urging other aspirants to vote for Atiku.
Wike reiterated his stance on the resignation of Ayu as the chairman of the party, adding that he is “only fighting for fairness ,equality and inclusivity of the Southerners in the party.”

He said “A whole chairman of a party, who is supposed to be the umpire, was threatening people to withdraw. He threatened that if Wike wins he would resign.
“He kept calling people that if they refused to withdraw that Wike was going to win. He was holding various meetings and mounting pressure on people to resign.
“He was supposed to be the umpire. We didn’t want the party to go to court and we kept telling him to do the right thing. He was working for a particular candidate. There was nothing Ayu didn’t do to ensure that Wike failed.”
