Nigerian wrestling rave of the moment, Blessing Oborududu has been ruled out of the coming World Wrestling Championship holding from October 2-10 in Oslo, Norway.

Oborududu, one of Nigeria’s sure medal prospect for the championship is carrying a knee injury on her right leg, suffered at the recently held 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan, where she won silver medal and she is expected to be out of action for the reminder of the year.

President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), Daniel Igali, who disclosed this, while commenting on the coming World Championships, noted tha, Odunayo Adegoroye will lead Nigeria chase for medals in Oslo, while, Oborududu is expected to undergo surgery to get her knee fixed before she could make a return to the wrestling mat.

“The immediate plans now are the World Championships; you know this wasn’t supposed to be an Olympic year, so, we also have world championships in Norway and a couple of our athletes will go. Of course Odunayo Adekuoroye has to go; I think she has to go avenge whatever losses she suffered at the Olympics.

“Blessing Oborududu won’t be able to go. I think we’ll have her knee repaired. So she may take this year off. And we’ve a couple of other athletes; Aminat Adeniyi and a couple of them we’ll see who is prepared to go to the World Championships, that’s the immediate goal,” Igali said.

“But you know we’ve the Commonwealth Games next year, the year after we’ve the African Games added to the Olympics, it’s a three years circle. We already have a map drawn up, so we’ll follow it religiously,” he added.
