The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, has intervened in the case of a bereaved woman, leading to the waiver of her N300,000 outstanding hospital bill.
DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), disclosed this in a statement in Abeokuta on Monday.
According to the statement, the woman, Precious Mathew from Ogooluwa area, behind Owode Market, approached the Owode-Yewa Police Division on Sunday over the unpaid bill.
He said that Mathew had undergone a Caesarean Section at Longe Hospital Medical Centre, Sabo Owode-Yewa on June 30, but she lost the baby.
“The total hospital bill was N400,000, out of which N100,000 had been paid, leaving an outstanding of N300,000.
“The matter was brought to the attention of CP Ojajuni, who interfaced with the medical doctor, Dr Babanki Samuel, and appealed for understanding and compassion.
“Following the intervention, Samuel voluntarily forgave the entire N300,000 outstanding bill, allowing Mathew to leave without the burden of payment,” he said.
The PPRO said the intervention provided an opportunity for dialogue and understanding between the bereaved woman and the medical doctor.
According to him, the command commended Samuel for his humanity and generosity in waiving the outstanding bill.
“The gesture demonstrated the importance of compassion and support for people facing difficult circumstances.
“The intervention was not about confrontation, but about listening, dialogue and finding a humane solution.
“The command express appreciation to Dr Samuel for his understanding and willingness to assist the woman.
“The gesture will go a long way in easing Mathew’s financial burden as she continues to cope with the loss of her child,” he said.
Babaseyi reiterated the command’s commitment to responding to the concerns of members of the public and promoting peaceful resolution of disputes.(NAN)
