Omo-Agege elected AFBC’s Vice President

Following his election last week as Vice President of the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC), Azania Omo-Agege has promised to use his new position to develop boxing in the country.

According to Omo-Agege, who is also the Vice President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation(NBF) he will ensure that Nigerian referees, judges and coaches attend International courses as well as strive for them to be appointed into AFBC committees.

Omo-Agege, who prior to the election was AFBC Director, pulled 11 votes out of 13 votes to emerge victorious in what could best be described as a landslide victory.

General Ilunga Muyoyo from the Congo Democratic Republic had seven votes to be elected as 2nd Vice President while Botswana and Morocco had five and three votes respectively.

President of the International Boxing Association (IBA), Umar Kremlev and the AFBC President, Bertrand Mendouga, in their congratulatory messages during last week’s IBA extraordinary Congress held in Armenia, said they were not surprised at Omo-Agege’s victory as he has paid his dues in boxing and wished him the best .

Reacting to the outcome of the election held in far away Maputo, Mozambique, Omo-Agege dedicated it to Nigerian boxing and the entire country as well as President of the NBF, Lt. Gen. Kenneth Minimah (rtd) for all his encouragement and support.
