The Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, has commended Gov. Lucky Ayedatiwa for approving the payment of severance allowances to members of the 7th, 8th and 9th Assemblies.
Oladiji also said the payment of the allowance was extended to past chairmen and members of the Ondo State House of Assembly Service Commission.
The commendation is contained in a statement issued by the speaker on Monday in Akure.
Oladiji described the approval as a demonstration of the governor’s commitment to the welfare of legislators and other stakeholders who had contributed to the development of the state through their service to the legislature.
He particularly appreciated the governor for also approving the recruitment of workers into the Assembly.
The speaker noted that the development would help strengthen the workforce of the Assembly, improve efficiency and enhance effective legislative service delivery.
Oladiji said the approvals were timely and significant, adding that addressing the welfare and manpower needed of the legislature would contribute positively to the smooth running of the assembly and the overall development of the state.
The speaker expressed appreciation to the governor for his “mature and responsible handling of the recent crisis in the House of Assembly.”
According to him, the governor’s approach demonstrates his commitment to peace, stability and the effective functioning of the three arms of government.
“The governor’s ability to manage the situation with wisdom and restraint has helped to protect the integrity of the state’s democratic institutions and create an atmosphere conducive to good governance.
“We reiterate our continued cooperation and support of the Ondo State House of Assembly in advancing programmes and policies aimed at improving the lives of the people of the state.
“We are committed to maintaining a harmonious working relationship with the executive arm of government, while discharging our constitutional responsibilities effectively and independently.
“We are confident that the collaborative relationship between the executive and legislature will continue to yield positive results for the people of Ondo State,” the speaker said.
Oladiji thanked Ayedatiwa for his leadership, understanding and continued support for the Assembly. (NAN)
