Like it is now applicable in Kogi state,Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State is to impose sanctions on those rejecting the old naira notes especially business owners.
The premises of defaulters according to the state government will be shut indefinitely.
Speaking on saturday on a radio programme through the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on strategy and special duties , Dr Doyin Odebowale, the governor said anybody who rejects the old naira notes ,₦500 and ₦1000 in the state shall be prosecutd accordingly.
Akeredolu said the hardship is becoming unbearable for the people, stressing that everything will be done to alleviate their sufferings.
He said all commercial vehicles in the state should start taking the money and accept it as legal tender.
It would be recalled that the Supreme court had ruled that both the new and the old notes be allowed in circulation till 31st December, 2023.
With the statement, it has now become an offence for anyone to reject the old notes in the state.
Akeredolu had earlier in the week made a broadcast after the supreme court judgement ordering the circulation of old N500 and N1000 notes alongside new notes.
However, relevant Stakeholders especially commercial banks have not been complying with the directive to the detriment of the masses, who are now living in penury.
