Orbih seeks legal redress over alleged suspension by PDP NWC, demands retraction

By David Lawani, Abuja

Following the purported suspension of Chief Dan Orbih of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), his lawyer, O. J. Onoja, SAN, has demanded a retraction from the party over a press statement issued which he said was against the Federal High Court’s subsisting order restating his client as the National Vice-Chairman, South-South.

In a statement addressed to the acting national chairman of the PDP which was copied to the deputy national chairman, South, Taofeek Arapaja, and national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunaba, the lawyer is seeking the immediate dissolution of the six man committee headed by Arapaja on the matter.

However, among the demands for retraction issued by O. J. Onoja Chambers, which was signed by the head, George Ibrahim Esq. includes:

“An immediate retraction of the said Press Statement issued by the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party regarding our client and all other actions or directives incidental thereto, which were done in contravention of an extant order of court.

“Immediate dissolution of the six-man committee headed by Amb. Taofeek Arapaja to investigate our client on trumped up allegations”, the statement said.
It will be recalled that the PDP had before now announced the suspension of Orbih over what it claimed amounted to an infraction against the party.

But Orbih, through his lawyer filed a suit at the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, in suit no FCH/ AbJ/ CS/ 601/2024; Chief Dan, Osi Orbih v. Paulinus Ebode & 2 ors,  where in the learned trial judge on the 10th day of May 2024, granted an order of interim injunction restraining the defendants which include the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from suspending him from the party and adjourned the matter to the 22nd day of May, 2024 for hearing of the motion on notice.’’
