A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to simplify the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), warning that cumbersome procedures could discourage eligible voters ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye said many prospective voters have encountered avoidable difficulties while attempting to collect their PVCs, stressing that the electoral commission must adopt a more efficient and citizen-friendly process to encourage wider participation.
He argued that making PVC collection easier would strengthen voter confidence and improve turnout on election day.
“INEC should introduce a more effective and citizen-friendly framework for PVC collection. Eligible voters should not be subjected to unnecessary hardship before exercising their constitutional right,” Oyintiloye said.
While expressing concern over the collection process, the former lawmaker appealed to eligible voters not to be discouraged, urging those yet to obtain their PVCs to complete the process and participate peacefully in the election.
“I urge every eligible voter not to be discouraged by the challenges. Collect your PVC and come out peacefully to vote for the candidate of your choice,” he said.
Oyintiloye also condemned reports of intimidation and attempts to instil fear among voters, insisting that no individual or group should be allowed to undermine the democratic process.
“No individual or group should be allowed to undermine the democratic process through acts capable of causing panic or discouraging lawful participation in the election,” he stated.
He called on security agencies to maintain professionalism throughout the electoral process and ensure that anyone involved in violence or voter intimidation is prosecuted.
“Security agencies must remain vigilant and professional before, during and after the election. Anyone involved in violence, intimidation or any act capable of disrupting the electoral process should be brought to justice,” he said.
Projecting confidence in the fortunes of the APC, Oyintiloye said the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), enjoys widespread acceptance across the state.
“The goodwill and enthusiasm demonstrated by residents across Osun reflect growing confidence in our candidate. The APC is on course for victory, and the journey back to government has already begun,” he added.
The appeal comes as political parties intensify campaigns while INEC continues preparations for the off-cycle governorship election expected to attract national attention.
