Oyo Govt. will continue to cater for Nigerian Legions welfare

Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State says his administration will continue to cater to the needs and welfare of members of the Nigerian Legion and dependents of fallen heroes.

Makinde stated this on Thursday, during the launch of the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem held at the House of Chiefs, State Secretariat, Agodi in Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor was represented at the occasion by his deputy, Alhaji Rauf Olaniyan.

“It may interest you to know that some of us here have tasted the heat of the civil war and the effect of internal insecurity.

“So, we cannot claim ignorance as if we don’t know what happened to those people who were affected.

“This is an occasion for good Samaritans, philanthropists among us to donate to the need of those that were affected,” he said.

Makinde, on behalf of the State Government, announced the donation of N3 million to launch the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem.

He stressed that nothing was too much to support the legions or families left behind by the fallen heroes.

The governor appealed to philanthropists, corporate organizations, industrialists, commercial firms, and well-meaning individuals to donate generously to the Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem Appeal Week Fund.

In his address, the Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Oyo State Chapter, Mr Julius Ogunkojo, appealed to the State Government for the provision of operational vehicles to enhance security operations in the state.

Ogunkojo also enjoined all and sundry to donate generously to ‘the noble cause of the fallen heroes.

He appreciated the Gov. Makinde led administration for the positive and genuine disposition to the welfare of members of the legion.

NAN reports that the event witnessed the decoration of top government officials and representatives of security agencies in the state.

The week-long program will also include special prayers in churches/mosques and the empowerment of widows and people with disabilities. (NAN)
