The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that completing the long-abandoned Abuja Millennium Tower will require more than ₦400 billion, making it impossible to finance through the FCT’s statutory budget alone.
He said the FCT Administration is in talks with President Bola Tinubu to have the project designated and funded as a national project and tourism centre.
Wike made the disclosure on Thursday after inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory.
He explained that diverting such a huge sum to the Millennium Tower would stall other critical infrastructure projects, stressing that the administration was seeking federal intervention to ensure its completion.
The minister said the contractor handling the project had put the outstanding cost at over ₦400 billion, adding that discussions with the President were aimed at securing the necessary support for the landmark development.
During the inspection, Wike visited the extension of Collector Road CO1 in the Institutional and Research District, linking Nile University to Ring Road III and Baze University Junction, as well as the Arterial Road N1 project connecting Wuye District to Ring Road II.
He expressed satisfaction with the pace of work, describing the projects as critical to improving road connectivity and easing traffic congestion in the capital.
He also assured residents that the Arterial Road N1 project, being executed by Arab Contractors, would be completed and handed over before the end of the year, noting that contractors had continued to deliver because of their confidence in the FCT Administration’s commitment to honouring its financial obligations.
The minister reiterated that the FCT Administration remains committed to completing both inherited projects and new infrastructure initiatives under the Tinubu administration.
He expressed confidence that all road projects inspected during the tour would be delivered as scheduled before the end of 2026.
Wike urged residents to remain patient and appealed to the media to continue reporting the ongoing transformation across the Federal Capital Territory, saying the administration remains focused on making Abuja a world-class capital city.
