Oyo State partners with TCN to install power sub-station

Oyo state government has partnered with the Transmission Company of Nigeria to install a 132/133/33kva sub-station in Oyo Town to address power outages.

Speaking during an inspection of the project on Thursday, Mr Joel Ajagbe, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, said a 500kva transformer would soon be inaugurated at Ilora Farm Settlement.

Ilora is the closest community south of Oyo Town.

Ajagbe said the installation of the transformer at Ilora was part of the government’s determination to ensure steady power supply to boost the socio-economic and commercial activities of the people.

He represented the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Temilolu Ashamu, at the inspection.

“It is a bold pronunciation by the government to tackle epileptic power supply in the state,’’ Ajagbe said.

The permanent secretary emphasized that government would do everything possible to ensure a steady power supply in the state.

He also assured that communities with vibrant economic activities but were not connected to the national grid would benefit from the mini-grid project.

Ajagbe added that the first phase of the scheme would be enjoyed by residents of Ajia, Otefan, Samu, Iwajowa and Oyo communities and also those at Ogbomoso South Local Government Area.

He noted that efforts were in top gear to lay gas pipeline to the state and that work had reached an appreciable level on the project.
