The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun has ordered the closure of both public and private schools in the state. The measure which he said would be temporary, was as a result of  the escalating violence that trailed the EndSARS protests across the state.

Commercial activities as well as motorists and commutters in the past few days have suffered untold hardship as the peaceful protests have been hijacked  by hoodlums.

The schools are expected to reopen on Monday, next week if normalcy returns.

Also a  one -day embargo has been placed on the operations of the commercial motorcycles popularly called “okada” across the state effective todayt “in the first instance,”                                       .

The governor also directed that  security surveillance around the Nigerian Correctional Service Centres and public buildings in the state should be stepped up with immediate effect.

Abiodun in his state of the state address also ordered an immediate deployment of joint patrol teams of security agencies across the state to ensure that there is no threat to public safety and security,.

The governor declared that blockade of highways and molestation of innocent citizens by protesters “will no longer be tolerated”.

“As a responsible administration, we considered a number of options, including imposing a curfew on the state. However, in line with our focused, deliberate and measured approach, we are adopting those measures in the meantime.

“We will be reviewing developments on a 24-hourly basis and will not hesitate to announce stringent measures as may be considered necessary”.

He appealed to the protesting youths and  asked them to appoint for themselves, leaders that will liaise with government towards ensuring that their grievances are adequately addressed.

“There cannot be a better tomorrow, if we destroy today and the foundation being laid for tomorrow. Let me warn that Ogun State will not be conducive to anyone who may want to test the resolve of government to provide security or those who may want to come from other states to foment trouble in our dear state”.
