Periodic COVID19 risk assessment tests mandated on schools

In readiness for school resumption, schools within the country have been required to carry out tests to assess the risk of COVID-19 each week.

Apart from the weekly tests to be conducted by the schools, local governments are to make monthly risk assessments on the schools, while state governments carry out quarterly risk assessments.

These scheduled assessments are to forestall any recurrence of the pandemic that crippled the world, by ensuring that schools in the country are following all the necessary health protocols.

Speaking on this, Elsie Ilori, Head of the Department of Surveillance and Epidemiology of the NCDC, said, “We are working closely with the Federal Ministry of Education, PTF-COVID-19, states and our partners to ensure that the required safety measures are in place to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on our schools.

“This will help to promptly address the gaps that may exist in reducing the risk of COVID-19 spread in schools.”
