
The Police on Monday arraigned a 42-year-old man, Olatunji Tope, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over the alleged assault.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a one-count charge of assault.
The prosecutor, Insp Caleb Leramo, told the court that the defendant committed the offense on Jan. 8 at about 1:30 p.m. at Okesha Area in Ado-Ekiti.
Leramo alleged that the defendant during an argument stabbed the complainant, Olakanmi Olasehinde, with a car key on his head and jaw resulting in serious injury.
He said the offense contravened Section 335 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Michael Faola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Jan. 31 for a hearing.
