2027: Battle begins as APC hits ADC

By David Lawani, Abuja

As the 2027 general elections begin to cast a political shadow over the nation, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired a blistering salvo at the newly unveiled opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), dismissing it as a hollow alliance driven by personal vendetta and ambition.

In a statement issued on Thursday, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka described the coalition as a gathering of “self-obsessed merchants of vendetta” and “political hoaxers” who are desperate to regain relevance after falling out of favour with the electorate.

“The so-called coalition is a roll call of me-or-nothing politicians who have lost touch with reality,” Morka said. “It is a desperate power grab masked as a rescue mission, but devoid of any substance, ideology, or policy direction.”

The coalition, unveiled in Abuja on July 2, 2025, and fronted by former Senate President and ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, had vowed to rescue Nigeria from what they described as “Tinubu’s misgovernance.” But Morka said the event was an anti-climactic political stunt that offered no answers to Nigeria’s real challenges.

He described Senator Mark’s speech as “vacant, bitter, and filled with baseless accusations,” accusing him of failing to articulate any clear vision or economic roadmap.

“Rather than present Nigerians with a coherent agenda, they offered tired rhetoric and a recycled cast of political actors who mistake their ambition for national interest,” Morka stated. “What does this coalition stand for? What is their economic plan? Nigerians are not gullible.”

Defending President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Morka listed several achievements, including a GDP growth rate of 3.4%, a significant rise in external reserves from $4 billion in 2023 to over $24 billion in 2024, a drop in the debt service-to-revenue ratio from 99% to 40%, and inflation easing from 31% in 2024 to 22% in 2025.

He also pointed to milestones in security, education, and agriculture: “Over 40,000 terrorists have been neutralised or arrested, student loan schemes have taken off, academic calendars remain uninterrupted, and oil exports are at record levels. Farmers are earning more, and infrastructure projects are ongoing nationwide.”

Morka accused the opposition coalition of deliberately ignoring these gains while engaging in “theatrics and brick-throwing” and reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to delivering on its Renewed Hope Agenda.

“While they wallow in political mudslinging, the APC and President Tinubu remain focused on building a prosperous, secure, and stable Nigeria for future generations,” he said.

With political tensions heating up and alliances being tested ahead of 2027, the ruling party’s latest attack sets the tone for what is shaping up to be a fierce and ideologically charged electoral battle.
