Police rescue Bwari kidnap victims, arrest fake abduction alert suspect

The Police, in collaboration with the Army and other security agencies, have rescued the Bwari kidnap victims and reunited them with their families.

The information came Sunday morning from the FCT Police Command that the Police and the joint task force that embarked on the rescue mission stormed the Kanuru forest in Kaduna State and rescued the victims.

A statement signed by the FCT PPRO, SP Josephine Adeh, stated in part, “Following the relentless advancement of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command Anti-Kidnapping squad in a concerted effort with troops of the Nigerian Army, on the heels of the kidnappers that struck the Zuma 1 area in the Bwari Area Council on the 2nd of January 2024, The FCT Police has rescued the victims and reunited them with their families.

“The operatives successfully rescued the victims around Kajuru forest in Kaduna State at about 11:30 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2024.”

The statement attributed the success to the IGP’s innovation with the new Special Intervention Squad which gave the team verve for the operation.

She stated, “While appreciating the Inspectors General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun for the deployment of the newly commissioned Special Intervention Squad, which has given an uplift to the existing security architecture of the FCT and has brewed public confidence, the Commissioner of Police FCT Command CP Haruna G. Garba, wishes to reiterate the Commands commitment to sustaining the robust security deployment made in the area and other parts of   the Territory for the utmost maintenance of peace for all and sundry.”

In a related development, the FCT Police Command has arrested a fellow who feigned being kidnapped to defraud his family.

The FCT Command PPRO in a separate statement disclosed, “The FCT police Command is aware of the news making rounds about an alleged kidnapping incident at River Park Estate in the early hours of today and wishes to state that contrary to reports, nobody was kidnapped in River Park Estate.

“One Nnandi Agu of Games Village only faked his kidnap in an attempt to defraud his brother who lives within the said Estate. The suspect is currently in police custody undergoing interrogation.”

Also yesterday, the FCT Police Command rescued another kidnap victim in Abuja.

The rescue brings to two in one weekend after the second town hall meeting that was held in Gwagwalada by the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.

A statement from the police issued by SP Josephine Adeh, FCT Police Command PPRO stated that the rescue took place on Sunday at Sauka community along the Abuja Air Port road.

She stated, “In a continued effort to rid FCT of criminality, Police operatives attached to Iddo Divisional Headquarters on January 21, 2024, at about 1130hrs rescued another kidnapped victim, one Suleiman Sabo, male, from kidnappers in Sauka, along Airport Road, Abuja.

“In the rescue operation, one Muhammad Abel, also male, aged 32 from Kogi State was equally apprehended, and one LAR rifle with 10 rounds of life ammunition was recovered from him.

“The victim who sustained some injuries from the kidnappers, is currently receiving medical attention, and will be reunited with his family once certified fit by the medical team,” she stated.
