Police tackling baby factories in South-South and South-East regions

Baby factories are booming in the South-South and South-East parts of the country and this has bumped up the sale of infants in these parts.

Babies are either bought for ritual purposes, to keep up appearances or social status or to enrich one’s self. Initially, the sex of the baby was a determinant factor in the pricing and male infants were sold within the range of N900, 000 to N1.5 million while female children went for N800, 000 and below.

But the recent pandemic had upstaged this norm and infants were sold just to survive. And it has escalated into a readiness to do anything.

Security officials have had their hands full with baby traffickers in the state, and have carried out arrests with the hope of deterring others from involving in such activities.
