Policeman flogging man with machete in viral video to face trial

The Nigeria Police Force has said that a policeman identified as PC Okoi Liyomo ,caught on camera flogging a man with machete is to face trial soon.

This was made known in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Thursday.

ThisNigeria had reported that the police officer sparked outrage on social media after viciously flogging a man with a machete.

In the disturbing viral video, the police officer could be seen hitting the man with the object while people pleaded with him to stop.

According to the statement, Adejobi said the officer was invited to the police headquarters in Abuja, adding that the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba had ordered his trial while reiterating their commitment to sanitizing the police force.

He said “PC Okoi Liyomo, the policeman who was caught in the viral video flogging one man with a cutlass in Cross Rivers State has been brought to the Force Headquarters Abuja.

“He met with the IGP today. The IGP has ordered for his trial. I await the outcome of the trial

“We will update u asap. We still reiterate our commitment to sanitizing the NPF, no room for nonsense, as we will not condone any act of lawlessness, unprofessionalism, corruption, harassment and incivility”.
