Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir of Bauchi State has identified politicians as the culprits for the rot in the civil service just as they should be held responsible for the bastardization of the service in the way and manner the process of appointment and promotion is politicized.
Governor Mohammed stated this on Monday while receiving the report on civil service reform in the state. He described bad governance, lack of compliance to public service rules as factors responsible for the numerous challenges facing civil service.
“Bad governance, mismanagement of process and procedures, distortion of services records have characterized the civil service in recent years.” He stated.
“Yes, the politicians including me are guilty of the rot that is in the civil service today because of political influence and favoritism in the appointment and deployment of officers from the local government areas and other sectors.”
He bemoans the active role civil servants now play in politics to the detriment of their service “I have asked them in the state civil service not to play politics with me but they should concentrate on the job they are employed to do. We want to separate politics from civil service.”
Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Gambo Magaji earlier explained that the report is in three volumes containing all the governance, lack of compliance to public service rules as factors responsible for the numerous challenges facing civil service.

Findings of the committee in the cause of its assumption which took about 2 months to complete.
He explained further that the recommendation was based on the reality of the Civil service as it is at present adding that it needs to be reformed in line with the present global best practices.
