Committee Chairman on Basic Education and Services in the House of Representatives, Professor Julius Ihonvbere and other members have lauded the positive contributions of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board [LASUBEB] towards the development of education in Lagos State.
This was as the House Committee led by Prof. Julius Ihonvbere conducted visits to some primary schools and other ongoing educational projects in the State as part of its national oversight functions in the Education sector in the state.
Impressed by the progress recorded by LASUBEB, Prof. Ihonvbere praised the Board as an important reference point in quality education delivery in the country based on its concerted and data-driven investments in education infrastructure to expand access, particularly in rural communities, and improve outcomes.
He re-emphasized the importance of education, especially at the primary level, in building prosperous and peaceful societies and urged LASUBEB to continue in its commendable path, while urging others to borrow a leaf from the board to ensure extensive national advancements in the area of education.
Other members of the House Committee on Basic Education including Hon. Benjamin B. Mzond of Makurdi/Gunma Federal Constituency, Hon. Ademorin Kuye of Somolu Federal Constituency, Hon. Akinfolarin Mayowa of Iledayo/Okigbo-Odigbo Federal Constituency, Hon. Awaji-Inombek Dagomie Abiante of Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency also expressed their approval of the efforts and interventions of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board thus far.
They particularly noted and praised the seriousness the board has displayed in the pursuit of its educational objectives in the State as well as the consequential infrastructural upgrade and other important markers of quality improvement.
On their part, Hon. Muhammad Shamsideen of Kano state, Hon. Gaza Gbewfi of Katsina, and Hon. Egberongbe Adewale of Lagos State all expressed no surprise at the impressive performance of LASUBEB because of the excellent track record of the Board’s Chairman, Hon. Wahab Olawale Alawiye-King who once served as the Chairman of the House Committee on Education while he was a member of the National Assembly.

According to them, his years as a legislator gave him profound insights into the workings of Education in the State and nationally, a fact that plays no small role in his renewed success in repositioning education in Lagos State as a Board Chairman.
In response, Hon. Wahab Olawale Alawiye-King, LASUBEB’s Chairman, thanked the committee for its institutional support and encouragement while also promising to do more in service to Lagos State.
