Reactions as businessman, Stephen Akintayo charges $18,000 for mentorship

Some Nigerians have slammed the Chairman of Gtext Holdings, Stephen Akintayo, for charging $18,000 for his mentorship program.

In a post he made on Facebook, the billionaire disclosed that $2,000 was discounted from the initial fee and also offered the opportunity for his intended mentees to pay over a period of 12 months.

He wrote, “If you ever wanted to be mentored by me, here’s the best news you’ll see today.

“For the first time ever, I am opening up 10 exclusive slots for my One-on-One Mentorship Program for a special price of $18,000 instead of the $20,000.

“And this is not the best part… As if this isn’t enough. For today pay just ₦2.5 million and spread the balance over 12 months.”

He shared some of the advantages tied to his mentorship program which are, “Access to once a month one-on-one with me, access to the Billionaire Elite Coaching community with other multi-millionaires and billionaires, all 45 of my books completely free, get insider access to my secrets for building a multi-billion naira industry from scratch”, among others.

However, this didn’t settle well with most netizens in his comment section who claimed he was trying to swindle unsuspecting people.

A Facebook user, Okey Mbah wrote, “Anyone doing whatever and was able to gather $18k in cash, assets or both while living in Nigeria definitely doesn’t need mentorship from the likes of you. He/she only needs to focus and double down on what produced that income while reading books and going for events. Do you know how many plots of land $18k can get in different parts of Nigeria or how much yield in FG Treasury Bonds that money can produce in a year or six months? That’s what someone bold-facedly is asking for as a ‘Mentorship” fee and some people with low self-esteem and intelligence issues will pay and later regret. What audacity! Whatever this man has to impart as a mentor is available in books somewhere. One only has to search and look for such books.”

Francis Njemanze wrote, “The problem l have with Dr Stephen is always on Monitisation. Last time he offered me a sponsorship ticket to a conference @N300k and yet called it Sponsorship.

“And now asking for $18k for Mentorship i.e an Equivalent of almost N30m. Who ever is in position to pay this Money ‘may’ not need your Mentorship to Succeed. The young people you claim to always want to help ‘succeed’ can not afford this money and so do many Startups.

“No one is asking you not to charge for mentorship, or intellectual Properties, but it should be in a Reasonable Manner without Exploitation. Dr Cosmos Maduka you are always parading have never charged Youths for Mentorship, Yet, people learn a lot from him including you. Sometimes, l just feel that following you is be overrated.”

Bitrus Mike Deshi wrote, “That’s close to N30m. If I have that money, I will rather improve on doing what I did that raised that money.”

Nomnso Precious said, “They’ll use your mentorship fee to build real business, and use talk to kill you.”

“When I realised that big men sustain greatness at the instance of the poor gullible, then I began to mind my business,” Olung Williams stated.

Sam Opaluwa replied, “Quite expensive even though knowledge is not expensive. This amount can’t give room to young or intending entrepreneurs who would want to be mentored by you.”

“So if I give you $18k, you go get mind collect am?” Kelvin Akujuobi asked sarcastically.

Sheriff Adamu said, “Anybody that can afford to have $20k, doesn’t need mentorship from you, respectfully.”

Oluwaseun Olufoye-Olowojoba said, “I always wonder how people with knowledge do not want common people to have it. An average person can’t afford this, but it is what it is, we will get there, just that it may take time, but surely we will, and by then we will be able to afford more than this.”
