Religion, politics cannot divide Zaar nation-ex-Bauchi commissioner

By Nike Earland

A former commissioner and member of Bauchi State House of Assembly, Honourable Rifkatu Samson Dana, has stated that the Zaar nation in the state has come a long way just as no one can use religion and politics to divide them.

She stated this on Saturday while interacting with journalists in Tafawa Balewa during the 2021 Sayawa annual socio-cultural festival, Lepm Zaar.

She said, the Zaar people were united and working as one, emphasizing that the unity of purpose and working together were non-negotiable for the Sayawa nation to make progress politically and developmentally.

“We in Zaar nation are united and working as one indivisible nation. We know ourselves; we have come together as one nation. So we shall remain despite our ethnoreligious differences.

“It was outsiders who are trying everything possible to use religion and politics to divide us, but nothing can separate us because we are of one root,” Dana, who represented Bogoro State Constituency in the Bauchi Assembly declared.

The former lawmaker informed that the annual Lepm Zaar ceremony was an avenue for all Sayawa people home abroad to come together to celebrate peace and unity in the Zaar nation, adding that the event was being used for sober reflection and plans for next year.

She, however, called on all Zaar sons and daughters to contribute to the growth and development of the Zaar chiefdom in the state.

This, according to her, was to enable the chiefdom to stand firm on its feet saying, “by the grace of God, very soon we will attain the status of well-grounded Zaar Chiefdom.”

Asked the reason behind her political hiatus, the former commissioner, who served under the administration of ex-governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar administration in the state, explained that she was on sabbatical, using the period to study the political happenings.

While affirming her membership of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, which she said she remained committed to, Dana assured that at the appropriate time she would resurface.

“Yes, I am on political sabbatical. I am watching and studying the political happenings. At the appropriate time, you will hear from me. I am a very staunch member of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
