Religious leaders concur on capital punishment for rapists

Rape is an abominable act and has been compared to terrorism by religious leaders at an Emergency Call to Action Against Rape in Kaduna on Tuesday.
The conference was a two-day conference organised by Ummi El-Rufai, one of Gov Nasir El-Rufai’s wives, to deliberate on how to end the act.
While a few thought that rapists should be dealt with according to the laws of the land, Sheikh Kabir Gombe explained that drug abuse, uncontrolled sexual urge and lax laws motivate rape, and such capital punishment would serve as a deterrent.
Rev. John Hayab, the state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, agreed that rape has a negative effect on the society and Nigerians need to take a stand against it.
