Repatriate, prosecute Sowore, other sponsors of protests, Reno Omokri tells FG

Social media personality and critic, Reno Omokri, has urged the Federal Government to prosecute Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress candidate for the 2023 presidential election and other people encouraging the recent protests in Nigeria.

The former presidential aide, in a post he made on his X account, justified his stand by claiming that the British government has descended heavily on those sponsoring and fanning the ongoing protest in the United Kingdom.

Omokri wrote, “Please fact-check me: The British government has placed those sponsoring and fanning the ongoing protest in the United Kingdom on a watch list and is actively seeking Interpol’s help to extradite them to face charges in Britain. There is absolutely nothing wrong in Nigeria’s authorities placing the sponsors of the violent protest in Nigeria on a watch list.

“Omoyele Sowore incited Nigerians to loot, assault, and destroy. He and others encouraged actions that led to loss of lives and property. They have sabotaged the regional economy of Northern Nigeria and it will take years for Arewa to recover from the damage.

“You cannot organise and incite a protest from overseas and demand that Nnamdi Kanu, a lawfully detained suspect, should be released, and make other political demands and claim it is an economic protest.

“No. It was a political insurrection by defeated presidential candidates. And not only should the inciters be placed in a watch list, just like the UK is doing now, attempts should be made to repatriate them back to Nigeria to face lawful charges. ”
