Reps ask Civil Defence, Immigration to suspend ongoing recruitment

The House of Representatives has demanded the suspension of the ongoing recruitment exercise into the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NCDC) and the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The House took the decision following a resolution after debating a motion titled, “Call for intervention in the On-Going Recruitment Exercise into the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) and the Nigeria immigration Service, NIS, sponsored Hafiz Kawu.
While considering the motion after a lead debate by honourable Kawu, the lawmakers frowned at the way the exercise was carried out and therefore urged the civil defence, Fire, immigration and prisons services board, (CDFIPB) to immediately suspend or cancel the Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) conducted on the 7,8 December, 2020.
They argued that the exercise favoured only computer literate applicants while alternatives were not provided for others who are not skilled in computer operation, like giving them handwritten exams.
For instance, the legislators wondered why the paramilitary agencies will not emulate the Nigerian Army, which go to the local governments areas for recruitments and subject all applicants to both written and physical examinations.
They specifically described the exercise as discriminatory because it negates enshrined principles of fairness and social Justice as provided in section 14 of the constitution.
Though most members argued against the motion on grounds that most examinations from the school certificate levels are conducted via computers, the motion however scaled with the House, however, warning the affected agencies to revert to the old method used by them to conduct such exercise in the past, while the committees on Interior, federal character and reformatory services have been mandated to investigate the recruitment exercise and report back to the House in six weeks
