Minority Parties in the House of Representatives have joined calls for the immediate sack of Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami over comments supporting religious extremists and terrorism.

The recent demand through their minority leader in says the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu, followed a point of Order raised on a breach of his privilege.

Elumelu noted that as a cabinet Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Pantami occupied an extremely high and sensitive position that prohibits such comments.

He, however, requested that such weighty remarks credited to the communication Minister should not be ignored but investigated.

But while acknowledging Elumelu’s position, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamuila, declined debate of the motion, pointing that such motions were not necessary for debate.

“Your point of order has been noted. It is not such motion for debate,” Gbajabiamila said and hit the gavel

The plenary session then moved to other items on the House’s agenda.

PDP Asks Buhari To Fire Pantami

Recall that there have been overwhelming calls for the resignation or sack of the Minister over his pro-Taliban comments.

The Minister has recanted his radical comments, admitting he knows better now, even though calls for his sack by President Muhammadu Buhari and pressures on him to resign voluntarily increases by the day.

The opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had also called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to immediately invite the Minister for questioning and urged President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately sack the minister, “given the sensitivity of the issue at stake.”
