
The ongoing strike embarked by judiciary workers nationwide has drawn the attention of the House of Representatives which has appealed to the workers to down tools
The House of Representatives Wednesday appealed to the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) the umbrella body of the workers to call off the industrial action because they are in support of financial autonomy of that level of government
Chairman House committee on Judiciary, Onofiok Luke while in an interface with JUSUN representatives in Abuja admitted that they are aware of their demand but the essence of the interface is to be well informed on the issue.
Onofiok said the committee appreciate the stand and position of JUSUN.
According to him, this House understand that there is need for the independent of the Judiciary which is financial autonomy. We understand this. To that extent we are in solidarity with you.
“I want to use this opportunity to appeal to State governors. They should engage the Judiciary Staff of their states. When there is financial autonomy it will be for the betterment of their States at large. We are appealing to our Governors to please obey the law”.
“Please let us not punish others for the sin of those at the state level . We should take the blame to the door steps of those who are actually the cause”, he added.
Earlier on his part, Deputy national president JUSUN, Comrade Emmanuel Abioye, said with the appeal of the House, the judicial workers will be asked to call off its strike.
Abioye noted that the demand for financial autonomy for the Judiciary is the major reason for the strike.
Judiciary workers sustain strike in Port Harcourt
In the same vain, General Secretary of JUSUN, Isaiah Adetola, emphasized the need for implementation and respect for constitution amendment.
“JUSUN is here to fight for the common good. The National Assembly should do something. I appeal that you give us the maximum support that the constitution of the country is obeyed by all”, Adetola said.
