
Safe School Initiative
The Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District, Professor Nora Daduut, has said that the Safe School Initiative should not just be revalidated, but be given priority in saving the soul of Nigerian children.
The Senator who is the first female senator from Plateau South Senatorial District made this known when speaking at the Senate Plenary on Tuesday on the motion by Senator Stephen Odey for ‘urgent need for the restoration and revalidation of the Safe School Initiative in Nigeria.
Senator Nora Daduut lamenetd that
The Safe Schools Initiative was launched by some Nigerian business leaders, UN Special Envoy for Education Gordon Brown, the Global Business Coalition for Education and A World at School at the World Economic Forum in Nigeria in response to the growing number of attacks on the right to education, including the kidnapping of Chibok girls in 2014.
Senator Smart Adeyemi speaking during the motion said that he supported the motion, saying: ”If there is one thing we must focus on is the welfare of our children. The little we can do for them is to keep them safe. ”
He went on to say that there is a need for Governors to be more focused to make sure the people are safe, secured and we should be courageous enough to say when they are lacking.
Senator Nicholas Tofowomo on his part said that schools must be taken properly care of. Let us secure our schools and improve on Nigeria Police.
He lamented that the nation need to improve its policing system
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe speaking to the motion asked what happened to the funds allotted to the Safe School Initiative which has a budgetary provission “The Safe School Initiative started with a budgetary provision. I would have loved Senator Stephen Odey to delve into what happened to the funds. It is necessary for each and every one of us to be concerned.” –
