Akpoborie blasts Nigerian football administrators, says they’re incompetent

By Francis Ajuonuma
Ex-international, Jonathan Akpoborie has taken a swipe at Nigerian football administrators, accusing them of incompetency and ripping where they did not sew.

Akpoborie, who spoke in an interview in Lagos, also fingered the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for blame over Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar.

According to the former Hansa Rostock and VfL Wolfsburg of Germany player, those presently running Nigerian football are outdated and don’t have anything in stock to offer in the effective administration of Nigerian football.

” Football administrators in the country must share the blame for the World Cup flop. Many of them have nothing to contribute to the development of the game and it’s unfortunate that for the past 30 years, the same people keep on recycling themselves, and at each election, they come together to vote for themselves.
” We’re in 2022 and our administrators still do the same thing they’ve been doing since 1975 and none of them has contributed anything meaningful towards the development of our football and we need new crop of administrators with modern ideas to take charge of our football”, he declared.

Also, Akpoborie did not spare local coaches, whom he believes lack the technical know-how to handle the Super Eagles.

“You must also understand that your League can never be good if you have substandard coaches and this also affects your national team and I have not seen any of our coaches that has what it takes to handle the national team and I challenge anybody with a superior argument to show me the coach”, he added.
