Senate confirms Buratai, Olonisakin, Sadique, Ibas as ambassadors
The appointment of former service chiefs as ambassadors has been confirmed by the Senate. This came as the senate explained why the nominations of the former service chiefs could not be nullified.
Recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had sent their names to the Senate for confirmation as non-career ambassadors after they were asked to reign.
Abayomi Olonisakin, former Chief of Defence Staff; Tukur Buratai, former Chief of Army Staff; Ibok-Ete Ibas, former Chief of Naval staff, and Sadique Abubakar, former Chief of Air staff were okayed by the senate after the Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe asked the Committee on Foreign Affairs Chairman to tell the senators why petition against the ex chiefs were dismissed.
Non-career ambassadors : Reject Buratai, others, PDP tells Senate
But the Senate President, Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan, speaking said that: ‘I checked our resolutions and in some of our resolutions, we said the President should change, replace and remove them as Service Chiefs. They have been removed which I think it’s a plus for this Senate.’
“Now if they are nominated for something that is different, I think our resolutions asking for their removal as Service Chiefs does not crossover to their nomination.”
“On that call, the nominations cannot be nullified because we said they should be changed.” Lawan concluded.
