Senate meets NSA, service chiefs, heads of security agencies this Thursday

Service Chiefs and heads of security agencies including the National Security Adviser summoned last week by the Senate over increasing insecurity in parts of the country will brief the Upper Chamber this Thursday, Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has said.

Lawan, who disclosed this at the plenary of the Senate on Tuesday, described the briefing as very crucial for the lawmakers to be well-informed and guided in respect of any request for a supplementary budget to tackle the growing insecurity.

“We should be able to understand why we should consider and approve such budget. On Thursday, the only item on the Order Paper (of the Senate) will be the briefing. We will have on Thursday as a special day for engagement between the Senate and the Service  Chiefs and heads of security agencies,” he stated.

According to him, the service chiefs and National Security Adviser including the Director-General of the DIA that were scheduled to interact with the Senate today (Tuesday, 4th May) won’t be able to honour the invitation due to the ongoing National Security Council meeting that may continue till this Wednesday.
