Shun unprofessional conduct, Lagos CP warns officers

The new Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Abiodun Alabi, has warned officers and men of the Command against unprofessional conduct.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Command’s Spokesperson, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, in Lagos on Wednesday.

It quoted CP Alabi as giving the warning while addressing Heads of Departments and Sectional Heads in the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja.

“The CP, who showed concern about the rights of citizens, further warned Heads of Investigation Sections against unnecessary detention of suspects in their custody, adding that they must dispense with criminal cases speedily.

“Similarly, he warned administrative office personnel and others to always manage information effectively and be guided by the oath of secrecy when handling official correspondence and other matters.

“In what seemed a piece of fatherly advice, CP Alabi admonished the personnel not to work at cross purposes but to ensure inter-departmental and inter-sectional harmony,” the statement said.

Alabi, while assuming office on Jan. 24, had promised to rid the state of gang wars and prosecute perpetrators.

The new CP, while taking over from his predecessor, AIG Hakeem Odumosu at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, had also promised to employ visibility policing to deter criminals in the state.

“Gang disturbance will be holistically addressed and those found culpable will face consequences of their actions.

“There will be visibility policing and dominance of security space by ensuring the presence of policemen at all times, to deter criminals as a preventive measure.

“We will ensure that Rapid Response Squad (RRS) is encouraged and strengthened to respond promptly and effectively to citizens’ concerns,” he had said. (NAN)
