Special investigative panel on oil theft vows to unmask perpetrators

The Special investigative panel on oil theft has vowed that no stone shall be left unturned in ensuring a thorough probe that will unravel not only the incidences of oil theft and losses, in the Niger Delta but also, those behind the criminal enterprise.

The investigative panel which comprises eminent Nigerians with rich experience and expertise in their various fields of endeavour said, it is fully aware of the strategic importance of the task assigned to her.

Chairman of the Special Investigative Panel on Oil Theft and Interim Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Major-General Barry Tariye Ndiomu (Rtd), made this promise in a statement signed by his media aide, Mr Thomas Peretu.

“We are determined to work towards uncovering the clandestine activities of individuals, groups or agencies, as the case may be, as they relate to oil theft/ losses. We shall propose time-tested recommendations covering Short, Medium and Long Term perspectives to aid implementation especially, given some of the fundamental changes that will be necessary to frontally, tackle the menace as well as the period left in the lifespan of this Administration,” he said.

He reminded members of the panel of the enormity of the task ahead and urges them to hit the ground running in an effort to painstakingly scrutinise incidences of oil theft, which, has had a devastating impact on the nation’s economy and national security.

Recall that the National Security Adviser to the President (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd), had on Tuesday inaugurated a special Investigative panel on oil theft and losses in Nigeria, chaired by the interim administrator of the presidential amnesty Programme (PAP), Major General Barry Tariye Ndiomu (Rtd).

Speaking shortly after the committee was inaugurated in Abuja, retired General Ndiomu, said members of the panel will work assiduously to deliver on its mandate.
