Police in manhunt of suspected rival cultists who beheaded student in Anambra

Police in Anambra State said on Monday that they are on the trail of suspected cultists who killed an alleged member of a rival group and used his head to play soccer in the Igboariam community in the Anambra East council area of the state.

A viral video had surfaced on the social media weekend showing how about four boys were kicking with the head of the beheaded victim along the road.

The beheaded victim with dreadlocks is suspected to be a student of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University in the state.

He was alleged to have been dragged out of his car and shot at close range at about 4 pm on Saturday.

He was later beheaded, and his head was later brought to the village square, where the assailants used it to play soccer while making jest of him.

Commissioner of police in the state, Mr. Tony Olofu in reaction through the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga said operatives of the Command were working round the clock to track down the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

According to Ikenga, “The Commissioner of Police Anambra State Command, CP Tony Olofu has ordered an investigation on the shooting incident on 25/9/2021 by 4pm along Igbariam road.”

He said, “Preliminary investigation reveals that the shooting was as a result of the rival cult clash. Meanwhile, Police Operatives have intensified patrol and surveillance within the area. Further details shall be communicated.”
