Ahead of his terminal in tenure, President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday approved the establishment of a transition council to disengage his administration from Aso Rock.
Courtesy of the signing of an executive order, the Presidential Transition Council (PTC) headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, was named by the outgoing leader.
It was learnt yesternight that two of the presidential slots in the transition council belong to his ‘successor’.
The council, the presidency announced, is to ensure a smooth handing over of power to the newly-elected president after the election.
The naming of the council came barely 24 hours to an emergency security council meeting scheduled for today in Abuja.

In a statement in Abuja, the SGF, Boss Mustapha, announced names of the members of the council, which he heads.
Other members of the council are the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation; the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice; National Security Adviser (NSA); Chief of Defence Staff (CDS); the Inspector-General of Police (IGP); Director General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA); Director-General, State Security Services (SSS), and Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
They will be joined by the permanent secretaries from the ministries of Defence; Interior; Finance, Budget, and National Planning; Foreign Affairs and Information and Culture.
The SGF said the Transition Council will later be inaugurated at the Conference Hall of the SGF Office.
Meanwhile, the president also signed Executive Order No. 14 of 2023 yesterday for the facilitation and management of presidential transitions.
A key feature of the Presidential Executive Order No. 14 of 2023 is the institutionalization of a legal framework that would enable a seamless transition of power from one presidential administration to another, as part of the Buhari legacy.
