President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Monday, commissioned the newly rehabilitated and expanded road network from Karu Interchange to Customs Clinic Junction and other adjoining roads in Karu, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), describing the project as a major step toward improving mobility and economic activities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the inauguration ceremony, President Tinubu said the 15-kilometre road network, equipped with solar-powered streetlights, would ease traffic congestion along the busy Karu corridor and stimulate economic growth in the area.
He said the project reflects the administration’s commitment to delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda through critical infrastructure development.
The President noted that the rehabilitation and expansion of the roads would significantly reduce travel time, eliminate traffic gridlock and create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
He added that the installation of solar-powered streetlights would enhance security and improve visibility for motorists and residents at night.
Tinubu commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for driving the rapid transformation of Abuja through aggressive implementation of the administration’s urban renewal programme.
He said the development of satellite towns such as Karu demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of governance reach all residents regardless of social status.
Speaking earlier, Wike thanked President Tinubu for his consistent support for the FCT Administration and noted that all road projects requested by Karu residents had been delivered.
He urged residents to assess developmental projects objectively, irrespective of political affiliations, stressing that the new roads would benefit all users.
The minister also praised the contractor, Abdul-Val Nigeria Limited, for delivering the project within schedule despite financial challenges.
He said the company remained committed to the project throughout the construction period and completed the work ahead of the administration’s third anniversary.
The Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, said the contract was awarded in August 2025 and completed within nine months.
He disclosed that the project involved the construction and rehabilitation of about 15 kilometres of roads, drainage systems, culverts, pedestrian walkways and solar-powered street lighting.
