2 businessmen in court for alleged N3.7m fraud

Two businessmen, alleged to have fraudulently obtained 37 units of different brands of generator sets, valued at N3.7 million, were on Thursday brought before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The defendants, Daniel Anayo, 26, and Emmanuel Egbudu, 34, are standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and fraud.

The prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Feb. 19 at Alaba International Market, Lagos.

According to him, the defendants fraudulently obtained 37 units of different brands of generator sets, valued at N3.7 million, from the complainant, one Mr Don Charles, under the guise of paying with a cheque.

Aigbokhan said the defendants, however, refused to pay for the goods, knowing that their presentation was false.

He said the offences contravened Sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The duo, however, denied the offences.

He, thereafter, adjourned the case until April 14 for mention.
