APC, a parlous shield for Nigeria’s corrupt politicians to move in droves – ADC Chair

By Cajetan Mmuta,
National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief Ralphs Okey-Nwosu has lampooned the All Progressives Congress (APC) for allegedly providing a shield for corrupt politicians.

He stressing that many more political parties would continue to lose corrupt members to the ruling party which has provided a parlous shield for such personalities.

Nwosu stated this during a press conference held in Awka, the Anambra state capital on Wednesday.

He said it was not a surprise to him that many politicians especially in the National Assembly had been moving in large numbers into the APC even as he regretted that his party, the ADC, which he ranked the third most popular political party across the country lost some lawmakers to the ruling party.

The ADC chairman noted that the mass movement into the APC was because it has never hidden its quest to get corrupt politicians into its fold.

According to Nwosu, “During the 2019 general election, we came third in terms of the number of votes cast for political parties in the entire country. ADC is the party that got the third highest votes. We got 15 House of Assembly members, and save for the crooked nature of our system, ADC should have gotten about five governors. We also got seven House of Representatives members, but unfortunately, we lost two.”

He said the Nigerian system paves way for politicians to go into the office, and the corrupt ones among them soil their hands, and the next thing is, they want a soft landing, and APC is ever ready to provide that.”

2023: ADC faults INEC’s move to create additional polling units

“This advert APC is doing everywhere, and saying once you join their party, your sins are forgiven, I find it very bizarre. They don’t mind how corrupt you are, they just want you to join their party. Oshiomhole (former APC national chairman) was the first to say that, and they have been advertising it. So, I think more politicians, especially the corrupt ones will still move to APC,” he stated.

On the raging controversy over the passage of the Amended Electoral Act and the petroleum Industry Bill, Nwosu described them as self-serving, pointing out that the amendment bill on electronic transmission of election results may spark revolt in the polity.

“I will not be surprised if there is a revolt by the masses tomorrow because people are watching what they are doing and a lot of people are not happy.”
