The Renewed Hope National Media Tour on Wednesday inspected major road, housing and transportation projects in Abia State, showcasing ongoing federal and state government investments aimed at improving infrastructure, boosting economic activities and enhancing living conditions for residents.
The inspection forms part of a nationwide assessment of projects being executed under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. It is designed to provide Nigerians with firsthand information on the implementation and impact of key government interventions.
Members of the delegation visited several strategic projects across the state, including federal highways, housing developments and transport infrastructure considered critical to economic growth and regional connectivity.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Tunde Rahman, the tour is intended to highlight the progress of development projects and assess how federal and state partnerships are driving growth across the country.
Among the projects inspected was the Ohafia–Umuahia Federal Road, a key transportation corridor linking communities, commercial centres and agricultural hubs within the state.
The delegation also toured the state-funded 67.6-kilometre Umuahia–Uzuakoli–Akara–Ohafia Road, a major route expected to improve mobility, facilitate the movement of goods and agricultural produce, reduce travel time and expand economic opportunities for rural communities.
At the Omenuko Bridge along the corridor, the team assessed ongoing efforts to strengthen critical transport infrastructure that serves thousands of commuters and businesses in the area.
A major highlight of the visit was the inspection of the Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Umuahia, a 1,200-unit housing development regarded as one of the largest projects under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Housing Programme.
Speaking during the inspection, the Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority, Oyetunde Oladimeji Ojo, disclosed that the procurement processes had been concluded and that contractors would soon move to site.
The housing project is being implemented through a partnership between the Federal and Abia State governments, with the state providing land and compensation for affected property owners. At the same time, the Federal Housing Authority oversees construction.
Officials said the estate is expected to expand access to affordable housing, generate employment opportunities and stimulate economic activities in the state.
The team also visited the Onuinyan Bende Renewed Hope Housing Project, another federal housing initiative aimed at addressing the nation’s housing deficit while supporting local economic development.
Also inspected was the newly commissioned Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal in Umuahia, a modern transport facility designed to improve urban mobility, ease traffic congestion and enhance passenger convenience.
The delegation further assessed ongoing reconstruction works on sections of the Owerri–Abia–Imo Federal Road and the Abia segment of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, both of which are considered strategic corridors for interstate transportation and commerce.
Residents and business owners along the project routes expressed satisfaction with the pace of work, saying the improvements were already easing movement and supporting economic activities.
The media delegation, jointly led by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, and Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, included presidential aides, media executives and journalists from print and electronic media.
The tour is expected to continue across other states in the South-East as part of efforts to assess projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda and showcase their impact on communities and the wider economy.
