The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has transported sensitive electoral materials for the June 20 Ekiti State governorship election and a series of federal and senatorial by-elections scheduled nationwide.
The operation, carried out between June 15 and 16, followed a request by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for logistical support to facilitate the secure and timely distribution of election materials.
According to the Air Force, the materials were flown from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to designated destinations in Enugu, Rivers and Kano states.
The deployment covered preparations for the Ekiti governorship election, the Enugu North, Nasarawa North and Rivers South East senatorial by-elections, as well as federal constituency polls in Dawakin Kudu/Warawa in Kano State and Zuru/Shanga in Kebbi State.
Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, who commended personnel involved in the operation, said the mission underscored the Air Force’s support for democratic processes and national institutions.
“The successful execution of this mission reflects our commitment to supporting national institutions while maintaining operational effectiveness in our primary responsibility of defending the nation,” he said.
The Air Force noted that its collaboration with INEC remains vital to safeguarding election integrity by ensuring the secure transport of sensitive electoral materials.
It added that the exercise demonstrates the military’s broader role in supporting democratic governance and national development beyond its traditional security responsibilities.
The election materials are expected to reach their designated locations ahead of Saturday’s polls, as electoral authorities intensify preparations for a smooth and credible voting process.
