Tinubu commissions Kubwa road, says infrastructure projects will reach all communities

President Bola Tinubu on Friday commissioned the reconstructed 4.2-kilometre Arab/Gbazango Road in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, saying his administration will continue to extend quality infrastructure beyond Abuja city centre to satellite towns and rural communities.

The commissioning marked the conclusion of the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s 31-project commissioning and groundbreaking exercise, which formed part of projects executed under the administration’s infrastructure programme.

Represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, the President said the project reflects the objectives of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda by ensuring inclusive development across the FCT.

“Our developmental vision for the Federal Capital Territory is complete inclusion. We refuse to restrict development to the high-brow city centre of Abuja. The suburbs, the outskirts and the satellite towns deserve the exact same high-quality infrastructure,” Tinubu said.

“We will not rest until the dividends of democracy are equitably distributed to every community, not only in the FCT, but across Nigeria. Our focus is to ensure that every citizen enjoys a life of dignity, safety and prosperity.”

The President noted that the Arab/Gbazango Road had for years posed challenges to residents due to poor conditions, flooding and traffic congestion, adding that its reconstruction would improve mobility, reduce travel time and boost economic activities along the Kubwa axis.

He also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as effective leadership in delivering infrastructure projects across the territory.

Speaking at the event, Wike described the ceremony as a celebration of achievements recorded by the administration over the past month through the commissioning of multiple projects.

The minister disclosed that since the Tinubu administration came into office in May 2023, the FCTA had awarded contracts for 317 kilometres of roads across satellite towns, with 221 kilometres already completed and 96 kilometres still under construction.

According to him, the figure excludes major infrastructure projects executed within the Abuja city centre by the Federal Capital Development Authority.

“It is unprecedented in the history of this country for a President to commission and flag off 31 projects within 28 days. If anybody has a contrary view, let him come and challenge us,” Wike said.

“I challenge anyone in the next 48 hours to prove that we have not awarded 317 kilometres of roads and completed 221 kilometres in the satellite towns, and I will resign as Minister of the FCT.”

He added that work would continue on other major road projects, including the Apo-Karshi and Bwari-Kubwa roads, which are expected to be completed later this year.

Wike also directed the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority to address complaints over inadequate potable water supply in the Arab Road community after receiving a request from residents during the event.

Earlier, the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, said the 4.2-kilometre dual carriageway starts from the Outer Northern Expressway and terminates at Liberty Junction in Byazhin, Kubwa.

He said the project, awarded to Zeberced Nigeria Limited on November 21, 2025, was completed within schedule and includes streetlights.

According to him, the road will improve transportation within Kubwa and is expected to increase patronage of rail services by enhancing access to facilities operated by the Nigerian Railway Corporation.

In his goodwill message, Chairman of the Arab Road Residents Association, Nnamdi Ezeabasirim, described the project as transformative for the community.

“This road is more than asphalt to us; it is dignity, opportunity and safety,” he said, while pledging residents’ support for the government’s efforts to protect the infrastructure.
