South-South PDP canvasses for zoning of contestable offices

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-South part of Nigeria has called for the zoning of contestable offices amongst the six states of the region.
During the meeting held on Friday, February 14th in Benin City, Edo State, the party members agitated for the establishment of the zoning committee within the region.
In a statement made available by Arch. Ekom Akonjom, the Zonal Organizing Secretary, the meeting was convened to deliberate on essential matters related to the upcoming 2025 Zonal Executive Committee Meeting.
Led by Chief Dan Osi Orbih, National Vice Chairman, South-South Zone, the Committee adopted three proposals intended for presentation at the forthcoming Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) meeting, scheduled to take place in Benin on Saturday.
The three proposals are as follows, “Proposal for the Ratification of the Establishment of the Zoning Committee: This proposal seeks the ratification of the Zoning Committee established for the purpose of zoning contestable Party offices amongst the six states of the Zone as a guide for the 2025 Zonal Elective Congress, which was previously established by the Zonal Working Committee at its meeting of 30th January 2025 held at the Zonal Secretariat in Port Harcourt
“Proposal for Consideration of Zoning Formula: A proposal for the consideration and approval of a zoning formula for the 2025 Zonal Elective Congress, based on the report submitted by the Zoning Committee. This proposal reflects the collaborative efforts of the Zonal Working Committee and the Zoning Committee, which has both deliberated on and endorsed the proposed zoning formula.
“Proposal for the Approval of the 2025 Zonal Elective Congress Roadmap: A comprehensive roadmap for the conduct of the 2025 Zonal Elective Congress in line with the Electoral guideline of the Party is proposed for the consideration and approval of the Zonal Executive Committee, aimed at ensuring a transparent and democratic electoral process.”
Chief Orbih was joined by the Zonal Treasurer, Mrs. Helen Weke; Zonal Financial Secretary, Anthony Ikuenobe, Zonal Organizing Secretary, Ekom Akonjom (Who acted as Secretary in the absence of the Zonal Secretary); Zonal Legal Adviser, George Turnah, MON; and Zonal Auditor, Okwoche Timothy amongst others.
