Court nullifies PDP Ibadan National Convention, recognises Abdurahman, Anyanwu caretaker committee

The Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention held in the city on November 15, 2025.

Delivering judgment on Thursday in Suit No. FHC/IB/CS/121/2025: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) v. Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) & six others, Justice Agomoh held that the convention was conducted in violation of subsisting court orders.

The court further ruled that the PDP Caretaker Committee remains the only lawful governing body of the party and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise and relate exclusively with the caretaker leadership.

Justice Agomoh described the suit as a “brazen attempt” by the applicant to legitimise actions carried out in defiance of existing court judgments, stressing that the court would not sit on appeal over those decisions.

“I cannot allow that or sit on appeal over those judgments,” the judge ruled.

Consequently, the application was dismissed in its entirety.

At the hearing, E. Y. Ajayi Esq. appeared for the applicant, holding the brief of Musibau Adetumbi, SAN. INEC was represented by O. A. Adeyemi Esq., alongside F. O. Ajiboye Esq. Chief Ferdinand O. Orbih, SAN, Dr. J. Y. Musa, SAN, and Dike Udenna Esq. appeared for the second to fourth respondents, while A. P. Igbayilola Esq. represented the fifth to seventh respondents.

The judgment is expected to have far-reaching implications for the leadership crisis within the PDP ahead of its next national convention.
