Delay not deceit, Sujimoto vows legal action over $556,000 fraud allegations

Luxury property developer, Sujimoto Construction Limited, has announced plans to take legal action against individuals circulating what it described as false and defamatory reports alleging a $556,000 fraud.

The firm’s Founder and Group Managing Director, Dr. Sijibomi Ogundele, said the company would pursue the matter in court to defend its name and reputation from what he termed “a deliberate smear campaign driven by mischief and envy.”

> “There is no fraud — none whatsoever,” Ogundele said in a statement. “What exists is a delay, not deceit. Those spreading falsehoods and misleading the public will face the consequences of their actions.”

According to him, the controversy stems from delays in The LeonardoBySujimoto, one of the firm’s high-profile real estate projects, which he said had been affected by regulatory processes and macroeconomic headwinds rather than any fraudulent conduct.

He explained that approvals for the project were secured in 2024 and that the firm remained committed to delivering the development by December 2025.

Ogundele maintained that all clients who requested refunds had been duly attended through transparent, verifiable channels.

Sujimoto, which has become synonymous with luxury property innovation in Nigeria, accused certain individuals of weaponising social media and public institutions to blackmail and discredit legitimate business operations.

> “This reckless use of public platforms to settle private commercial grievances is dangerous and counterproductive,” Ogundele warned. “It threatens business confidence, discourages investment, and damages the reputation of honest entrepreneurs.”

The company reaffirmed its track record of successful real estate ventures, citing The Giuliano and LucreziaBySujimoto projects, which it said had yielded remarkable returns for investors — appreciating from ₦285 million to over ₦2.5 billion in six years.

Despite the impact of inflation, currency fluctuations, and rising construction costs, Ogundele said Sujimoto had maintained uncompromising quality standards while sustaining employment for thousands of Nigerians and injecting over ₦7 billion into the economy through wages and contracts.

He stressed that Sujimoto’s forthcoming legal action was not just about image repair but about defending the principle of fairness in business.

> “Delay is not deceit,” Ogundele said. “Our integrity remains unshaken, and the truth will prevail in court.”
