Fuel scarcity: We’re facing financial challenges, NNPCL declares

The ongoing fuel scarcity currently being experience in different parts of the country which has forced the pump price to jump to as much as N1000 per litre in some filing stations, may prolong for some more time if statement coming from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) is taken into consideration.

The NNPCL had in statement yesterday admitted to media report that it is facing difficulties in sustaining the supply of fuel in the country due to indebtedness to petrol suppliers, cause by financial strain on the company.

The statement by NNPCL’s, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, said, “This financial strain has placed considerable pressure on the Company and poses a threat to the sustainability of fuel supply.”
However, he assured of NNPCL’s dedication and commitment to its role as the supplier of last resort.
“NNPCL has acknowledged recent reports in national newspapers regarding the company’s significant debt to petrol suppliers. This financial strain has placed considerable pressure on the Company and poses a threat to the sustainability of fuel supply.

“In line with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), NNPCL remains dedicated to its role as the supplier of last resort, ensuring national energy security. We are actively collaborating with relevant government agencies and other stakeholders to maintain a consistent supply of petroleum products nationwide.”
