Lagos Athletics celebrates Udo-Obong appointment as TA of Saudi Arabia Athletics Development

Lagos State Athletics Association, on 11 July 2024, honoured Sydney 2000 Olympic Games gold Medalist, Eniefiok Udo-Obong who has been appointed as the technical advisor of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Athletics Federation.

Held at Sylvia Crescent, Anthony, in the office of the Chairman of the Lagos State Athletics Association, Solomon Also, the special honour took Udo-Obong by surprise as he wasn’t expecting it in the first place.

In presenting the plague of honour to Udo-Obong. Mrs. Module Odubanjo, described Udo-Obong as athletics expert, who have over the years contributed immensely to athletics development in the state over the years and stressed that nothing will be too big to be done for him, adding that so many technocrats from across the world applied for the job but only two candidates scaled through and Mr. Odo-Obong happens to be one of the two

Reacting after receiving the plague from Mrs Module Odubanjo, a member of the Lagos State Athletics Association who stood in for the chairman, Solomon Alao, Udobong said he was not expecting the honour which was never discussed with him.

According to him, the chairman who is out of the country only asked him to come to his office with one or two friends, only to meet an elaborate press conference.

He said he was humbled and overwhelmed by such honour which served as a big boost to his Athletics coaching career and a challenge for him to do more, stressing that for whatever one is doing in life, he or she should know that the world is taking note of it, hinting that, if Lagos State with their lean resources could honour him, how much more the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where he is going to.

He thanked the Lagos State Athletics Association (LSAA) for recognising his contributions to the growth of athletics in the state as their technical director which accounted for the hour bestowed on him.

Though he is going to Saudi Arabia, part of him will still be In Lagos State and he will still be passing in swingers from there to ensure that athletics continue to blossom in Lagos State.

Meanwhile, in order not to create any vacuum, Billy Disu, the former captain of team Lagos will take over as the technical advisor of the LSAA in acting capacity.
