Forty-one Local Government chairmen in Rivers State have alleged a threat to their lives by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The LG chairmen made the allegation in fresh originating summons filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, through their lawyer, Mahmud Magaji (SAN).
In the suit filed through Magaji, the Rivers LG chairmen sought an order, compelling the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Department of State Services to provide adequate security for their lives and property.
They said the police and the DSS had the obligation to provide them with security going by the provisions of sections 215 of the 1999 Constitution.
The chairmen alleged that the governor had boasted that he would not implement the Rivers State Local Government (Amendment) Bill recently passed by the state House of Assembly, which strips Fubara off the power to replace the chairmen with caretaker committees.
