The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) in conjunction with the Commonwealth Games under the auspices of Commonwealth Sports Foundation Nigeria have concluded plans to organise an exhibition for some Nigerian indigenous sporting events in the country.
NOC Public Relation Officer, Phemmy Adetula, who disclosed this in a signed release made available to TNSports noted that the programme scheduled to hold on Saturday, 25th September at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, will be declared open by the NOC President, Engineer Habu Ahmed Gumel.
Some of the sporting events listed for the demonstration include Abula, Ayo, Dambe, Kokowa and Arm-Wrestling.
The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) is responsible for the direction and control of the Commonwealth Games, Commonwealth Youth Games and delivering on the vision of the Commonwealth Sports Movement to build peaceful, sustainable and prosperous communities globally by inspiring the Commonwealth.
The Commonwealth Games Federation on it part is made up of countries and territories previously under the British Empire. The Commonwealth Indigenous Sports event is one of the game-changing programmes of the Commonwealth Sports Foundation.
Objectives of the Commonwealth Indigenous Sports include raising awareness, increasing knowledge, changing attitudes and address challenges facing the sports community.

Also, it will serve as an avenue to reconnect the youths to their culture, enhance physical health and provide essential training for social interaction.
The exhibition will also be used to showcase Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, promote gender equality in sports and gain more recognition by the Government and the masses as competitive sports.
