
There was heightened tension in Anambra State yesterday as gunmen shot dead three police officers in the state.
The incident happened in the afternoon along Umunze road in Orumba South Local Government Area of the state.
A viral video of the attack had dominated social media, although the voice of the reporter in the video could not give a detailed information about the attack as at the time of filing this report.
It was learnt that the murdered officers were mobile policemen attached to the stations 29 PMF and 54 PMF in Umunze.
Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) of the state Command, Ikenga Tochukwu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), when contacted confirmed the incident, describing it as unfortunate.
He explained that reinforcement teams were already in the area to track down the fleeing hoodlums.
He said: “It is an unfortunate incident and is part of the highest price security officers pay in serving the nation, but the police command is not deterred by this development.
“The reinforcements teams are already in the area and the manhunt for the assailants is ongoing while joint security patrols have been intensified in the area,” he added.
